What are PDO Threads?

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are medical-grade absorbable threads that lift and tighten sagging tissues. Using small needles or cannulas, these threads are implanted under the skin in the subcutaneous layer. The skin appears rejuvenated, filled, and lifted after the threads are inserted.

Two Types of PDO Thread Procedures

PDO Thread Lift:

The PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that tightens the skin. The PDO thread-lifting procedure does not require large incisions (unlike most facelift procedures) because fine threads are inserted under the skin using small needles. PDO threads are specifically designed to lift and anchor sagging skin. Additionally, the threads increase collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Anyone interested in correcting lines, wrinkles, and other symptoms of aging in the face may be a good candidate for a thread lift. The procedure is especially beneficial for people whose sagging skin is under the chin and near their cheeks. The ideal candidate is typically between the ages of 30-65.
Results are immediate and often slightly exaggerated for the first several weeks as the threads and tissues settle. After an initial PDO thread lift, a boost may be needed at 3-4 months. Then yearly, a boost may be needed to maintain results. Not everyone will require a boost.

Smooth Threads:

Smooth threads tighten and smooth the skin, which helps to minimize fine lines and wrinkles while building collagen and other structural proteins in the skin. PDO smooth threads are ideal for anyone looking to improve the quality, tone and texture of their skin. Treating your skin with the threads while the signs of skin laxity are still mild will thicken, hydrate and strengthen your skin, delivering a smoother and firmer appearance for longer.
Smooth threads are typically used in areas of tired skin or skin with a crepey texture—such as around the eye area, the hollows of the cheeks, the upper lip, under the chin or around the mouth. Smooth PDO threads can be placed under the skin where you are looking for tightening or smoothing without worrying about filler migration or an over-filled appearance from HA fillers. Results are not immediate with smooth threads as it takes time for the threads to dissolve and the body’s healing processes to start working. You usually start to see results after 4 weeks, with optimal results after a full treatment cycle at around 3 – 4 months.
